28. Prison

“Tatsu!” Misa touched the glass pane between them.

“You seem flustered” Tatsu sat down opposite his surrogate sister and asked. “Are you all right?”

Misa nodded without hesitation. She had to be strong for him. “You probably heard what happened to grandpa.”

“I saw it on the nice. I’m really sorry…” Tatsu said.

Tatsu and Misa were cousins from their fathers’ side. ‘Grandpa’ Kenshin Hayami was the younger brother of his grandfather, hence a granduncle for him. “But I also saw your friend, that gaijin on TV yesterday. I didn’t know he’s such a big shot. And he caused quite a stir in that press conference. Everyone is talking about it. Is it real?”

Misa nodded. “Unfortunately, yes. The WSCF has been contacted to cooperate with the Ministry of Environment’s investigation. Very soon everything will be out in the open.”

“Damn,” he put his hand over his mouth and said. “I guess he was trustworthy after all.”

Misa returned a smile at him. Then she remembered what she had come here for. “Where’s your sister’s diary?”

“I have it in my room.” Tatsu said. “Don’t worry. It’s safe in here with me.”

“Don’t let anyone sees its content,” she reminded him. “That’s all that have left of your sister’s sacrifice.”

Tatsu nodded, his eyes downcast and full of sorrows. He missed his sister. “I won’t let her work go to waste. I’ll come out within when the time’s ripe.”

“That’s great. I know you will.”
